School is Out

School is Out

Definitely sure I echo most parents sentiments that it is so great school is out. It has been a journey with balancing working from home while home schooling the children.

Juggling working from home and home schooling must have been hard initially for most parents and I am sure getting a routine in place may have been tricky in the first place, but like everything in life if you stick at it a rhythm will emerge and things will not look as bad as when the situation was new.

Speaking with other parents that have primary school age children (sorry don’t have experience of secondary school yet) this experience definitely made loads of them appreciate what the teachers, teaching assistants and school system actually do in a typical school day.

Depending on if your child goes to a private or state maintained primary school, one teacher with maybe the support of one teaching assistant is managing a class size of about 18-30 children, every weekday for a total of 38-39 school academic weeks, so technically we as parents only need to entertain them for the remaining 13 weeks of the year they are not in the school system.

In defence to parents it is not easy doing your paid job while still checking your children were on top of their studies, so kudos to parents that did not lose the will to live and still love their children 😊 despite wishing to be anywhere else other than at home.

The fact that there are still functioning families after several months of working from home and home schooling is itself a miracle, so well done parents and children for adjusting to the so call new normal, we may have started the 19/20 school academic with different plans such as school assemblies, school trips, movie evenings, cake sales, disco evenings, music performances, year 2 & year six leaving events, sport day, summer fair etc, but we ended up with some year groups staying home since March 20, 2020 and some resuming in June 2020, that must have been tough for all involved.

The main thing is we ended the school year despite everything, so just want to say whatever memories we take from this totally different school academic year let us remember especially the memories that were made when so many people turned out being heros by making loads of sacrifices despite the unexpected happening:

  • School Headteachers, Executive Heads, Deputy Heads & Assistant Heads
  • Teachers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Parents, Grandparents & Family
  • School Support Staff – Business Managers, Admin, Premises, Cleaners, Cooks etc
  • Governors
  • School Education Departments

I have saved the last recognition to the pupils/children because many of them may never fully understand why this was such a strange year and I am sure a lot of them miss their friends and normal school routine, but they stuck with it and trusted the grown ups to guide them all the way, so well done to all our children, you did very well adjusting and adapting through everything.

So until we walk down memory lane again, grown ups and children please put up your feet, relax and enjoy the summer break, because school is finally out and we all deserve this time out to recharge and get ready for whatever the future holds.
